Probiotics and Prebiotics for Intestines

The fact that there are probiotics and prebiotics, many people know, if only through advertising. But this knowledge is limited. We are sure that there are some microorganisms living in the intestines. Probiotics and prebiotics are really necessary for the normal functioning of the body. Intestinal microflora can be disrupted due to antibiotic intake, as well as nutritional errors, and constant stress. This causes problems with digestion, and affects the digestibility of vitamins, the synthesis of trace elements. Doctors have determined that 80% of the cells of the immune system are located in the intestine, that is, the protection of our body depends on this organ.

Probiotics are called beneficial bacteria that live in the intestines. There are 2 types of these microorganisms:
  1. Bifidobacteria. They promote good absorption of food, help improve immunity. Thanks to bifidobacteria, the metabolism is activated, the work of the intestine is enhanced. They produce substances that inhibit harmful microflora.
  2. Lactobacillus. They produce lactic acid by breaking down the lactose for this. This acid does not allow colonies of pathogenic bacteria to grow.
How to fill the lack of probiotics? If we are talking about dysbiosis, you need to drink a course of special drugs prescribed by a doctor. Those who do not suffer from this disease should regularly consume dairy products. When choosing, pay attention to the prefix "bio", these products are most useful.

You can find them:
  • in bioogurt;
  • in biokefir;
  • acidophilic milk;
  • in sauerkraut, provided that it is not pasteurized;
  • in cottage cheese;
  • in some cheeses (Gouda, Dutch cheese).
And from yogurt with a long shelf life is better to refuse. This is a common dessert, in which all the useful microflora died due to sterilization. Make sure that the following notation is on the package: Lactobacillus acidophilus or Bicfidobacterium bifidum. Do not take expired fermented milk products. And try to use them before the specified expiration date, otherwise they will also become useless.

They should be at least 1, 0 × 107 CFU / g of lactobacilli, and bifidobacteria - 1, 0 × 10 6 CFU / g. You can find out about how many useful microorganisms are in the product by reading the inscriptions on the package. If there are fewer of them, then the likelihood that bacteria will enter the intestine will decrease, because many probiotic mtkroorganizmy die because of the effects of gastric juice and bile. You should not take yoghurts with flavors, such as blueberries, peaches or strawberries.

It would be a mistake to consider prebiotics as beneficial bacteria. In fact, these are substances that support the performance of probiotics and are their nutrient medium. That is, probiotics are useful microorganisms, and prebiotics are what they need for normal development. The most active prebiotics are inulin and lactulose.

The benefits of prebiotics are enormous:
  1. They fight cholesterol. Thanks to them, the amount of triglycides (fats that make up 60-85% of human subcutaneous fat), as well as glucose, is normalized.
  2. Essential for the nutrition of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. Interestingly, microorganisms that belong to a conditionally pathogenic group cannot use them.
  3. Thanks to these fibers, beneficial bacteria secrete substances that enhance the immune system.
  4. Bacteria break down prebiotics and convert them to fatty acids. These acids are necessary to protect the intestines and its mucous membranes.
  5. Thanks to prebiotics, an acidic environment is formed that is unsuitable for harmful microorganisms.
  6. They cleanse the body of toxic substances that we get from food, including carcinogens that cause cancer.
  7. Prebiotics reduce the likelihood of intestinal cancer, because they reduce the amount of enzymes secreted by harmful microorganisms.
  8. They help fight constipation, because they increase osmotic pressure inside the intestine. Because of this, it accumulates more fluid, feces softened and excreted.
  9. If you constantly use them, it is better absorbed magnesium and calcium. Bacteria, receiving additional nutrition, produces a lot of lactic acid. This acid forms compounds with magnesium and calcium, our body absorbs them well.
We can get prebiotics from a range of products:
  • chicory - 65%;
  • Jerusalem artichoke - 35%;
  • garlic - 17%;
  • onions -7%;
  • unprocessed wheat bran - 5%.
They are also found in asparagus, tomatoes, artichokes, bananas, figs, oats, wheat, rye, etc.

If you have problems with digestion (constipation or diarrhea), the skin has an unhealthy appearance, is covered with a rash, you get tired quickly, you are constantly ill, it is possible that you need probiotics and prebiotics. Be sure to undergo a course of treatment with special drugs after you have taken antibiotics, and also include products with beneficial bacteria in the menu. Try to take care of your health, t. To. By itself, this problem will not be eliminated, and health will only worsen.
